1. Start your day with water

Now many of you won’t agree with it, but the fact is you should start your day with water. In short, the very moment you get off your bed, you should take water without even bruising or cleansing your mouth.

The logic behind this is when we sleep at night, other organs function differently than it functions during the day or we are active. However, there is one gland on the inner wall of a chick, called the salivary gland.

This gland produces saliva all the time without any interruption. When we are chewing, it produces even more. The saliva so produced while we are sleeping contains several medicinal properties. And, it should be swallowed rather than thrown out b gargling.

Moreover, when this saliva reaches our stomach with water, it even helps a lot to those who are suffering from gastritis (acidity)  problems. One more thing to know about saliva is it’s alkaline (basic) in nature and neutralizes extra acid produced in the stomach. Thus, starting our day with water is much more beneficial in many aspects.

2. Always drink water sip by sip and not in a gulp

From the above point, we are clear that saliva in our mouth is very precious to our stomach and body as well. Also, some studies have claimed that drinking water in a gulp or continuously might cause a problem in our spine.

Also, when we drink water sip by sip, more and more saliva is mixed with water and reaches our stomach. This also results in pacifying our thirst properly. Hence, drinking water is sip by sip we are caring for our health, and is a good habit to follow.

3. Say no to Icy cold water

The normal temperature of the human body is around 37 degrees Celcius. And the icy cold water is nearly at 0 degrees. Drinking such water we are simply putting extra pressure on our stomachs. That is, whatever we intake, the stomach brings it to a temperature compatible with it, and for icy cold water, it has to do a lot of work.

During this, the blood supply to the stomach increases, and other organs might get deficient in blood. Apart from this, its a simple physics that anything contracts on cooling, and with this fact, icy cold water squeezes our intestines.

The contracted intestine results in constipation and indigestion problems too. Therefore, to keep ourselves healthy we should not take too cold water. Normal or little cold water is preferable.

4. Drink water at least an hour after your meal

The way we prepare our food, likewise in our stomach there is an area where the food is stored, epigastrium. The food that we eat is converted into a paste in that region only.

And in this process, various juices and digestive enzymes play a vital role. So it’s common sense that drinking much water right after our meal dilutes those enzymes resulting in improper digestion of our food.

This process of paste formation lasts at least an hour-long and so we should drink water at least an hour later. If somebody wishes to drink earlier, it should be at least 30 min earlier. Thus proper timing of water can result in proper health.

5. Take a seat while drinking water

Now, this might sound funny, but the fact is we should avoid drinking water while standing. The fact is when we are sitting in Sukhasana (easy pose) the center of gravity passes through our navel which is very essential for proper digestion. So it is advisable to eat or drink water only while we are sitting.

In conclusion, the five ways to keep yourself healthy simply with water might not be new to you. Perhaps, many of you might have an idea about it, but not in practice.
